Mission

Create a positive and empowering environment for women in cycling: Watt Riot provides a safe space for women to train and hone their skills in preparation to race regionally as well as internationally. By creating a group specifically for women committed to racing, we are able to encourage further registration and expand the field of women racing. More women on the start line means more opportunities for women to gain the experiences required to keep racing fun, competitive, and lifelong. Watt Riot is committed to traveling and racing together as a team.

Vision

Expand women's field within Alberta:  Our vision is to drive regional Road Race start line numbers up enough that women eventually see 3+ race categories for road racing in Alberta.

Provide support and growth opportunity for women chasing bigger podiums: Watt Riot also wants to keep a home base for those women who are chasing bigger podiums on the track or road. We want to see them continue to race in Alberta when they can but also understand that bigger goals don't always allow room for a ton of local races. These women are not only fierce riders, they are integral to the development of the sport and motivation and growth of future riders.

History

In 2017 many Alberta races granted category 1/2/3 women the opportunity to have their own start line at races. This was a great step for cycling in Alberta to show the women in Alberta that we do have a place in the sport. Prior to this 1/2/3 women raced alongside category 3 men, which can be intimidating as the race doubles in distance and the field is ten times the size.

Watt Riot Cycling wants to continue to help grow and support this community, and empower women in all levels of cycling.
